RISC-V: Add supervisor architecture support
Binutils now supports RISC-V supervisor architecture versions 1.11, 1.12, and 1.13.
This commit adds support for the RISC-V supervisor architecture, specifically versions 1.11, 1.12, and 1.13. This enables the assembler and linker to correctly handle programs targeting these supervisor environments.
In Details
This change extends binutils' support for RISC-V ELF objects by adding new entries to the riscv_supported_std_s_ext array in bfd/elfxx-riscv.c. These entries correspond to the supervisor architecture extensions 'ss' with versions 11, 12, and 13. It also updates the gas test suite to reflect these additions. This is for the RISC-V ELF backend.
For Context
- RISC-V
- An open-standard instruction-set architecture (ISA) based on reduced instruction set computing principles.
- Supervisor Architecture
- A mode of operation in RISC-V processors that provides privileged execution for operating systems and hypervisors. It manages memory, handles interrupts, and controls system resources.
- ELF
- Executable and Linkable Format. A common file format for object files, executables, and shared libraries on Unix-like systems.
- gas
- The GNU Assembler, part of the binutils package. It translates assembly language into machine code.
